Start sowing / planting sweet peas outdoors – they are very hardy and perform better under cold conditions.

Snowdrop, Snow Bell, Spring Bells, Flower, BlossomBrighten up spring pots, tubs and window boxes with Snowdrops, Dwarf Daffodils and Primroses which are in flower now.

Plant lily bulbs, but protect new shoots from late frosts.

Prune trees and shrubs as required, using sharp secateurs, loppers, and a pruning saw, and disinfect tools after use.

A good time to plant hedging, roses, trees and shrubs provided the ground is not frozen or waterlogged.

Apply sulphate of potash to strawberries, raspberries, apples and pears.

Do not prune plums and cherries until the buds begin to break in early spring, to avoid silver leaf disease and bacterial canker.
